The History of Ironsides Lubricants

Founded by George Bell (grandfather of current chairman David Bell) Ironsides Lubricants have been established for more than 80 years.

1930

George Bell began importing lubricants from the USA to supply the British Steel Industry.

1940

George Bell registered The Ironsides Lubricants Ltd. In Liverpool, England.

1953

Daniel Bell, George’s son, acquired JS Oils Stockport, a candle and tallow fat manufacturer. The product range was developed to include oils and greases, establishing the company as a leading lubricant supplier in the UK.

1965

Current Chairman, David Bell begins work in the Ironsides family business.

1970-80's

The company continued to develop its range of lubricating products to service industrial, agricultural, automotive and end user markets.

1980

A devastating, catastrophic fire severely damaged the factory, and it took almost 2 years to return to full production.

1982

The factory was fully rebuilt, complete with state-of-the-art manufacturing equipment.

1990

The company decided to focus activity on supplying wholesale to the UK lubricants industry.

1995

Ironsides Lubricants developed a range of high-performance lubricants and specialist greases called Super Shield.

2002

The company stopped producing oils to concentrate on manufacturing and supplying high quality lubricating greases for UK and global export markets.

2003 to present day

Ironsides have gone from strength to strength, whilst navigating a global financial crash, Brexit, the Covid pandemic and the Russian conflict to remain a strong, secure business that is upwardly mobile and looking to the future with a positive outlook.
